Julia Arias Lara Leite

International Trade, Trade Remedies, Customs


Ms. Leite is a legal assistant at UNO's São Paulo unit. She is responsible for providing assistance in legal matters related to trade remedies investigations, especially in preparing questionnaire responses and drafting memoranda defending the parties' interests. Ms. Leite is also responsible for research in international trade, focusing on WTO law and dispute settlement, national trade remedies regulations as well as domestic and foreign courts case-law.

Furthermore, she also provides assistance in customs matters, relating to import tax reductions based on lack of a similar national product ("ex-tarifarios") and procedures of restitution of antidumping duties unduly paid.

Ms. Leite holds a Bachelor's Degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo (USP). She has attended a one week course on "Preferential Trade and the WTO: Addressing the Systemic Challenges" at the Summer Academy in International Trade Regulation of the World Trade Institute in Bern, Switzerland. She participated on the team representing USP on the ELSA Moot Court Competition on WTO law, on which she could deepen her knowledge on several international trade issues, such as dispute settlement at the WTO, market access on services, and technical barriers to trade. She completed part of her degree in a one-year academic exchange program at the Université de Nantes, in France.

Prior to joining UNO, Ms. Leite was an intern in the commercial arbitration department at the law offices L. O. Baptista Advogados and Veirano Advogados in São Paulo.
